Please tell us something about yourself. Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?
Blogging is a key component of our lead generation for our company AttorneyRankings.org.
When did you get an idea to launch your own blog and how important is it for you be online?
At the launch of my business I knew blogging would be very important for our company. It’s a low cost solution for lead generation, it helps drive referral traffic and allows the contributor to become an authority in their respective niche. It’s very important to our success. It is still the #1 lead generation method we utilize for our business.
Did you have someone help you make the website or did you do it by yourself?
Steven Willi, the creative director at AttorneyRankings.org built and designed the website.
The right domain name is important. How long did it take you to come up with the domain name for your blog?
This has been a real struggle. I’ve went back and forth with new TLD extensions but after I polled our followers we got the overwhelming response to keep our domain name the same. It is short and what we do is clearly evident in the name.
What kind of Theme do you use on your blog and what are the “must have” plugins for a blog?
We built our site on the WordPress CMS platform on the Divi theme. A few plugins that are very important are Yoast SEO, social sharing plugins (ie. Hupso), W3 total cache and security plugins. I am not an advocate for too many plugins because they can slow down a website though.
What CMS (Content Management System) do you use on your blog? How hard is it to navigate within your CMS (making a new post, inserting images, moderating comments, etc.)?
We use WordPress CMS. WordPress was designed for blogging. The interface is very easy to use. And because of the community of WordPress users out there, it’s very easy to find help when needed.
How much time do you spend blogging?
Approximately 1 hour per/day.
How do you promote your blog? Do you use social media channels to attract more visitors to your blog?
We are very active on social media. We also utilize Empire Avenue and Viral Content Buzz to give our content a little “boost”.
Is there a way to monetize (make money) through a blog?
Yes, we sell our Internet marketing services for lawyers. We funnel leads to our landing pages from our blog content creation.
Would you encourage other people to make their own blogs?
Please give us some advice for new bloggers and for people who are still not sure should they make a blog of their own?
Concentrate on creating keyword targeted content that is better than the content in the top 5 positions. The Internet is too saturated with “fluff” so if you do not create an exceptional blog, you’ll get lost in the crowd or not seen at all.
