Trust in Vogue by Hannah Briggs

I’m Hannah, a fashion student / part-time blogger from Leeds, currently studying a Fashion Communication degree at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne. I have been blogging at my website, TRUST IN VOGUE, since November 2012. Within this space of time, I have been nominated out of 46,000 people for the ‘Best Newcomer’ category in the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards 2013, which was a massive achievement for me. Alongside this, I have also collaborated with well-known brands such as All-saints, Asda, New Look and many more.

Please tell us something about yourself. Is fashion blogging your profession or just a hobby?

Fashion Blogging is currently just my hobby, as I have other commitments with being a busy University student, but I would love to make it a full-time profession when I have graduated, or go into the social media side of Fashion.

When did you get an idea to launch your own blog and how important is it for you be online?

I have always took an interest in fashion blogs, keeping up-to-date with what people post and what video content ‘Youtubers’ were posting. So, in November 2012 I created my own blog, because I wanted to express my own individuality through an online outlet and really utilise it through a variety of different social media platforms. It is definitely important to keep your readers updated, even if it’s a personal, boring tweet about what you’re having for tea that night! If you don’t regularly post on social media, you will lose readership from your loyal viewers.

Did you have someone help you make the website or did you do it by yourself?

For the majority of the time I fiddled around with my blog myself, teaching myself how to use HTML and coding, but then in Summer 2013 I purchased a customised template on Etsy.

The right domain name is important. How long did it take you to come up with the domain name for your blog?

It surprisingly didn’t take me that long to come up with the name, I wanted a word to do with ‘fashion’ – that’s where ‘VOGUE’ comes in, and I just wanted my blog to be trusted, hence the ‘Trust in’ part.

What kind of Theme do you use on your blog and what are the “must have” plugins for a blog?

I just use a simple white template theme, with the added social media plugin buttons that connect to pinterest, twitter, facebook, instagram and youtube.

BeFunky_IMG_4705.jpgWhat CMS (Content Management System) do you use on your blog? How hard is it to navigate within your CMS (making a new post, inserting images, moderating comments, etc.)?

I use the blogger website, so it’s not that difficult to post as it’s all pretty easy and systematic, and you can edit the settings to moderate comments, etc.

How do you promote your blog? Do you use social media channels to attract more visitors to your blog?

I promote my blog mainly through social media channels (twitter, facebook, instagram) I comment and visit other people’s blogs (try not to be too ‘spammy’ when doing this) or during Fashion Week I hand out business-style cards with my blog on them.

Is there a way to monetize (make money) through a blog?

Yes, you can gain income either through advertisement (side banners on your blog from brands) or brands may contact you to review an item, or come up with a ‘wishlist style’ post.

IMG_1220Would you encourage other people to make their own blogs?

Of course, I have gained so much more creativity, become more indiviudal and free-thinking since I started TRUST IN VOGUE, not only that, it’s just so much fun! You get to go to events, you meet lots of interesting people in the industry and really grow as a person.
