I graduated from the Fashion Marketing and Management program at The Art Institute of Vancouver. I carry over seven years of experience in the fashion industry in various roles such as; Personal Stylist, Stylist Assistant, Production Manager, Backstage Coordinator, Visual Merchandiser & Retail Management. I currently work full time as the owner and artist for I See Noise Prints
Fashion Blogging is both my profession and my hobby. I work full time as the owner and artist for I See Noise Prints which has allowed me to work on my blog simultaneously full time. At this current moment, I do not make full time income from my blog but what started out as a part time hobby has become my everyday passion.
When did you get an idea to launch your own blog and how important is it for you be online?
My blog The Unprecedented started out as an online portfolio while attending The Art Institute and quickly/organically transformed into an online inspiration board. Soon after it became my personal style diary and what it is today. It is extremely important for me to be online for life and business. In terms of business – this is the way businesses are growing and in terms of life – this is the way our lives are being lived. If we want to move forward with either of them we need to keep up!
Did you have someone help you make the website or did you do it by yourself?
My currently website was created by Jelyssa Madrid of Jesyssanne Designs
The right domain name is important. How long did it take you to come up with the domain name for your blog?
It did not take long at all for me to think of a domain name let alone the name for the blog. I knew I wanted my blog to have content that nobody else was posting about – in turn, unprecedented.
How much time do you spend blogging?
I spend on average 30+ hours a week blogging. This ranges from hours spent on photo shoots for outfits, closets and products. Hours spent on social media (which is an all day every day) thing and time spent putting the actual blog post together.
Many channels are used to promote the blog. I currently use Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Bloglovin and features in online and offline publications. Many hours are spent attending events hosted by retailers or PR companies.. making facetime at these events is an integral part of promoting your blog.
Is there a way to monetize (make money) through a blog?
There are many ways to monetize your blog. The most common are referral shopping sites, advertisements and sponsored posts.
Please give us some advice for new bloggers and for people who are still not sure should they make a blog of their own?
The one piece of advice I can give is if you think your blog is just a hobby, you better think again! What starts out as one will soon become a business almost whether or not you want it to or not. Having a blog is like reality television… people want to spend 10-15 minutes outside of their own lives to see into the lives of others and be ready to consistently update them on your fashion looks or whatever you decide to speak about. You may think nobody is reading, but they are. You may think nobody will follow you, but they will. If you put the time into it you can be successful with it.
