Zoe Summers on Blogging and her Facebook Marketing Guide

Zoe Summers is a social media expert and blogger for Mass Planner – a revolutionary social media scheduling and automation software. She’s also a guest blogger for publications like Social Media Examiner, Social Media Today or Business 2 Community, and an author of several Facebook Marketing books.

Please tell us something about yourself and your company?

I have over nine years of experience in social media consulting, so you could say that I eat and breath social media, especially Facebook marketing. I always loved to create content that can actually help somebody out. That’s why I started writing tutorials and books about social media marketing. I really believe that this relatively new marketing channel can change your business overnight. It’s not a matter of if you should have a social media presence or not anymore, but how to do it efficiently. Small businesses now have the same opportunities to reach their fans and potential customers just like the big businesses. All you need is patience and creativity. And of course, some clever tools to speed things up.

Over the years, I used a lot of scheduling and automation tools but I never found something that could cover all my needs. So you can guess my delight when I stumbled upon Mass Planner, and I joined this amazing team. With Mass Planner, I can test all the new strategies that I want without taking so much time. So that’s what I do: I use Mass Planner to test new social media strategy ideas and then I create content that help people to do the same for their business and get the results they dream of.

When did you get an idea to launch your own business website and how important is it for you to be online?

It seemed a crazy idea at first, with all the competition in the social media marketing landscape. But when we realized all the lacking features these tools had, we decided to create a software of our own with all the features that we need. When we launched Mass Planner in beta testing phase, we were overwhelmed by the positive responses that we decided to continue improving the software and start promoting it to as many people as we can. So being online is crucial for our business.

Did you have someone help you make the website or did you do it by yourself?

We are a small team of really wonderful people, and I’m so happy to be part of that. I’m focused on the marketing and social media aspects of the business, but we also have really experienced programmers, designers and customer support team members. We do everything ourselves, including the website and the Mass Planner software, front-end and back-end solutions. We also hire contractors for various projects, but we do the most of the work ourselves. It’s great because it doesn’t really feel like work. Knowing that we help a lot of people being successful in social media, it’s what brings us joy and motivation.

The right domain name is important. How long did it take you to come up with the domain name for your website?

This was a team effort. We brainstormed ideas for weeks, to come up with a great name for our product that eventually became the domain name. We wanted something simple that can express the most important thing that our product does. So we settled with Mass Planner because it’s not a planner just for one social network but for all the most important ones. So you can plan all your social media updates with one single software.

When we launched Mass Planner in beta, we supported only Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, but we soon added support for Google+, Instagram and LinkedIn. You can add all your social accounts, and you can schedule your content to be posted on all the social networks that are crucial for your business.

What CMS (Content Management System) do you use for your blog section?

We use WordPress to manage our blog. It’s really easy to use and efficient. All the plugins that you need are available for free or at low prices, so it’s affordable and efficient in the same time. It’s perfect for people starting out with blogging, because of the simple setup.

How important is your blog section and how much time do you spend blogging?

For us, the blogging section is where we can give back to the community and share our social media tips with our customers and fans. We also share important announcements, promotions and additional features for our product. I can’t tell how much time I spend on blogging because I do so much more. Apart from blogging I also create tutorials to spread the knowledge and help people starting out with social media. I recently launched a Facebook Marketing ebook, that you can get for free, that takes you through all the steps from creating a Facebook page and profile to creating a marketing plan, to optimize your content and to start taking advantage of Facebook Ads. It’s basically an A to Z Facebook Marketing guide.

But if you love what you do, it doesn’t matter if you spend 40 hours or 60 or even more, because it doesn’t feel like work. You get to talk about things you enjoy and you get to live the lifestyle that you wanted.

How do you promote your website? Do you use social media channels to attract more clients?

There are a few different ways that we use to promote our website, but my favorite one is of course social media.
We do live or recorded webinars, guest blogging, influencer outreach and many other strategies, but our favorite one is to use social media channels to attract more leads. After creating a social media marketing plan and we use our own product, Mass Planner, to meet our goals. We schedule all the social media updates in advance. We use Mass Planner to find and join groups and communities in our niche and start conversations. We contact leads and influencers to spread the word about our product. And the list continues.

Would you encourage other people to make websites for their own businesses?

Blogging is the best way to get more traffic to your site and to help other succeed with your products or services. After all you want people to get better at using your product right?

If you truly love what you do, you can make a great business and help other be successful at the same time. You just have to put in some effort and perseverance, but it will pay off in the long run.
