When you run a site with multiple authors, your WordPress powered website might get busy. With more authors, there are more posts and even more mistakes which you want to minimize. One way to do that is to limit authors to a certain category.
If you have more than one author, it’s probably because you want them to work on a different subject. For example, if one author writes about technology and the one writes about politics, there is no need for authors to have access to both categories at the same time. If you have more than two authors, you know how easily things can get out of control.
But, restricting authors to specific category is very easy when you’re using WordPress. All you have to do is install Restrict Author Posting plugin and you will have everything in order in minutes.
Restrict Author Posting
- Go to Plugins->Add New
- Search for “Restrict Author Posting”
- Install and activate the plugin
- Go to Users and choose a user who you want to restrict
- Scroll down to Restrict the category to which this user can post to
- From drop-down list, choose a category
- Save changes
After you have finished with setting up the plugin, user for which you have selected category will get a new type of notification once he or she starts to write a new post. The notification will let the user know if he is allowed to post to this category, while at the same time there won’t be category selection box on the sidebar from which this user can choose another category.
To remove or change restrictions, revisit the user profile page. You can do this for each and every user on your list and easily control their posting habits. Easy as that.
