Can you believe that it is time to flip the calendar and show the page for December? Time flies, and it’s only twenty-five more days until Christmas. The shopping madness has begun with Black Friday and Cyber Monday which are now behind us, but you still have a chance to grab on some discounts.
Since the holiday season is near, this is the perfect time to decorate your WordPress site. We already showed you how fun can it be to put snow on your site and how to decorate a website with Xmas Widget. Now, it is time to show you how to greet your visitors by displaying beautiful, customized and personalized Christmas Cards.
The entire idea behind WordPress Christmas Card plugin is so simple, yet so warm and beautiful. By installing the plugin, you get the chance to create a Christmas card which will be shown to all of your users for the first time they open your website. There are nine different themes, five songs you can play, unlimited color options, and you even get to control the snow on the card. Although the plugin is lightweight, there is so much you can do with it.
Themes, images, and snow decoration
For starters, there are nine gorgeous Christmas and New Year related themes you can choose from
Candy bar, Bells, Christmas tree, Door ornament, Reindeer, Santa Claus, Silent night and Snowman
After you choose a theme you want to display as your Christmas card, you can get to customize it. By opening a standard color picker, you can quickly change the background color of any card. Although it might sound trivial, this option allows you to fit in the card to the rest of your website design (if your site is mostly blue, you would probably prefer a blue card instead of a red one, right?)
Other customization settings allow you to change the card logo via the standard WP media uploader. Choose your company logo or add any image you want to personalize the card. If your image doesn’t look quite good on the page, you can quickly add a border or a white background on it directly from the plugin’s settings.
If you want to have the snow falling over the card, just choose any of five options. If you don’t like, you can turn off the snow completely.
Since the Christmas card will be displayed in full-screen, you will want to customize the “Continue browsing” text which is shown on the top-right part of the page. This link allows a visitor to close the Christmas card and open your site, so make it something unique to your website. If you don’t want to show the link, simply leave this option empty.
As you might have already seen from the demo cards, there are two headings you can customize. Greet your visitors, wish them merry Christmas and a happy New Year or write anything else you want. You can also change the year which is displayed as a separate module.
The plugin also allows you to use several variables. Instead of writing blog details manually, you can use variables and add your blog title, tagline, and URL.
This premium plugin lets you put music on your Christmas card as well. All you have to do is choose one of the five songs known to everyone.
Jingle Bells, First Noel, Joy to the World, Silent Night and We Wish You a Merry Christmas
The music is looped and streamed so you don’t have to worry about slowing down your site. If you choose to play any of the songs, your visitors will still be able to hit the mute button directly on the card. But if you don’t want to play the music at all, you can easily turn it off from the settings page.
If you want to create a landing page or show the Christmas card more than once, you can create a custom link for your card. Create a link and it will always open the card. This option is great for testing the plugin but you can also link to it from a widget, footer, header or any post you want. This will allow your visitors to enjoy the card at any time.
By default, every user will be able to see the card only for the first time. If you want to greet your visitors more than once, you change the option in the settings.
There are other options which allow you to set an expiration date for the card, show the card only on the front page, and you get to track visits and events with Google Analytics.
As you can see, creating a greeting card on your WordPress site is very easy and quite fun. Although it will take you only several minutes to set up everything, don’t wait until the last minute before you decide to install the plugin – Christmas is coming! Customize your card and prepare your website for Christmas – your visitor will love it!
