Her blog, Sparkling Footsteps was born 4.5 years ago when she decided that she needed a creative outlet from her current job, as a Physician Assistant in the ER. She works in an extremely stressful, and at times, depressing environment and needed to have an outlet to channel her creative, more positive energy. Since the start of the blog in 2010, she has been blessed with the opportunity to work alongside companies such as Nordstrom, Old Navy, Target, just to name a few. In 2012 she worked with Lucky Magazine and Bulova Watches in a 4 page ad that appeared in their November issue.
I have to say that it is both. It definitely started as a hobby and has become more of a second part time job for me. It regulates income and I am so, so blessed to be able to say that.
When did you get an idea to launch your own blog and how important is it for you be online?
I was reading blogs like crazy about 6 years ago and one day I woke up and was like “let’s do this…”
Did you have someone help you make the website or did you do it by yourself?
I made the website myself in the beginning and just recently had it made over by Kelly from Spirit & Haven, who is just an amazing human.
Ha! Not long actually. I had a blog prior to this one called “From Skirts to Skillets” — which I miss dearly, but this is the next best!
What kind of Theme do you use on your blog and what are the “must have” plugins for a blog?
I love the romantic, whimsical feel and right now I am still on blogger, so I don’t have any must have plug ins, but I will be moving to WordPress this summer!
How much time do you spend blogging?
Too much time. Definitely between 30-40 hours per week
Mostly just Facebook and Instagram now!
Is there a way to monetize (make money) through a blog?
Yes. There are many different ways including monetizing products from your posts through companies like rewardstyle & amazon affiliates. You can also work through agencies that connect brands with bloggers.
Would you encourage other people to make their own blogs?
Only if you have the time to dedicate to it. It also depends on what you are making it for. If it’s to document your family and just for “fun”, I say GO FOR IT! If its to make money, you need to think twice. It takes a long, long time to establish your brand and can be very time consuming!
