Shane Prather, the name behind of Whispering Sweet Nothings blog

Join the journeys of a recent college graduate who got her first big girl job across the world in Australia. As a finance major, I don’t get many opportunities for creativity so Whispering Sweet Nothings is my outlet to do just that!

Please tell us something about yourself. Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?

A hobby, but one I am extremely passionate about. If I could quit my job and become a full-time blogger I would in a heartbeat

When did you get an idea to launch your own blog and how important is it for you be online?

As part of a 30 day challenge 4 years ago. I did it “just for me” at the time. I never figured it would grow to what it has today!

Did you have someone help you make the website or did you do it by yourself?

The fabulous Whit from Heart and Arrow Designs created my design.

The right domain name is important. How long did it take you to come up with the domain name for your blog?

Not sure where I thought of it, to be honest, Popped into my mind on a rainy Sunday morning when I decided to start this blog almost 4 years ago.

What kind of Theme do you use on your blog and what are the “must have” plugins for a blog?

I am on Blogger platform so no plugins but love the popular post widget to showcase some of my best work!

How much time do you spend blogging?

I used to spend way more time before my first full time job. If I could be a full-time blogger and devote all of my time and energy to it, that would be ideal!

How do you promote your blog? Do you use social media channels to attract more visitors to your blog?

Twitter has been my most successful outlet because it’s easy to schedule tweets of my posts (and my sponsors).

Is there a way to monetize (make money) through a blog?

So many ways. I work with Clever Girls Collective, SITSGirls, Collective Bias and BlogHer which I pick the campaigns I think will fit with my blog.

Would you encourage other people to make their own blogs?

Of course! The world would be a much better place if everyone blogged rather than Facebooked their life.

signature_zps2a211538Please give us some advice for new bloggers and for people who are still not sure should they make a blog of their own?

Network, network, network! Just as in business, you have to make those connections with like-minded individuals and build your community to be successful.
