In some previous articles, we showed you how to modify dashboard elements in order to make it more personal. For example, you may want to prevent dragging of widgets in the dashboard area or decide to bring back the screen options layout panel which will let you more easily control number of columns.
In today’s article, we will show you a really easy way to remove Welcome Panel.
Welcome Panel was introduced in WordPress v3.3 and since then it has allowed faster navigation for beginners. This panel introduces buttons and links which will lead users towards theme customization. This way, new users got a chance to reach their first pages, options, widgets, etc.
But if you have already worked with WordPress, or your client doesn’t need this kind of help, the panel will only get in your way and take up the always needed space.
In version 3.5, a new hook was introduced which allows us to remove Dashboard Welcome Panel easily. Follow these few steps and you can say goodbye to your Welcome Panel:
- Find functions.php file located in your theme
- Copy and paste the hook:
- Save changes.
- Navigate to your Dashboard which now doesn’t contain Welcome Panel
If you want to further improve the dashboard area, you may consider adding chat to the area where your other admins and authors can communicate, add Youtube Analytics if you like working with videos or even create custom links in the Dashboard which can serve you as bookmarks.
