Hi this is Brad with Firstsiteguide.com and in this video I’d like to talk about the “Appearance” tab. So let’s go ahead and go over to the left hand side and click on the “Appearance” tab which is going to bring up all of these different little subcategories underneath the “Appearance” tab.
So what the “Appearance” tab does is it gives you the options and the settings to change the functions that affect the appearance of your blog like the different kinds of themes which will show various sections and it’ll set up your layout differently. Depending on the theme you have chosen, you’ll also be able to go into the “Customize” section which will be like a visual editor where you’ll be able switch around colors and choose different layouts.
The “Widgets” are boxes that you can add to various sections of your WordPress blog and depending on the theme you’ve chosen, this can include the home page, the header, sidebar and footer. “Menus” are quite similar in that you can add sets of links on the sidebar or the top navigation bar and again that depends on your theme. The “Header” section will allow you to change the title or add a logo on the top of your theme. Depending on your theme, you might also have a “Background” section that will allow you to change the color of your background or add a title background image in that same section.
The “Editor” is for advanced users and involves code knowledge. It gives you the option of editing theme code for specific functionality and design changes. This includes HTML and CSS styles. If you’re going to be changing any settings in there, we recommend saving an offline version first so you can go back and revert any changes if necessary.
I hope you found this quick demo useful. For more videos and how to guides please visit us at Firstsiteguide.com. Take care.
